Skuodas Evangelical Lutheran Church

The Skuodas Evangelical Lutheran Church (Lith. Skuodo evangelikų liuteronų bažnyčia) stands in the very center of Skuodas at Vytauto g. 1 and is widely described as the oldest surviving building in the town. Built of masonry in 1821, it is recognized as an architectural heritage monument (heritage code 1596).

In terms of appearance, the church is associated with Romanticism-era architecture: a clear, restrained volume and a strong single-tower composition. Its square tower rises in tiers that subtly narrow upward, while the openings are shaped with pointed-arch (Gothic-inspired) profiles that add verticality and character.

The building’s timeline includes notable restoration milestones—sources mention repairs in 1924 and a later restoration in 1972—and some descriptions identify Count Sapiega as the church’s founder/patron.
