The Palanga Sculpture Garden (Palangos skulptūrų parkas), located in the central part of the city near the bustling J. Basanavičius Street, is a place with a rich history. The park was originally established in 1982, but it gained its current modern appearance after an extensive reconstruction in 2008. At that time, the collection was significantly expanded with valuable works from the Lithuanian Art Museum's archives, transforming an ordinary square into a high-quality open-air gallery that now features more than 28 sculptures.
International Scope and Diversity
The garden's uniqueness lies in its diversity—here, the visions of artists from different generations and nations coexist. The collection features not only the leading lights of Lithuanian sculpture but also artists from Latvia, Estonia, Armenia, and even Ukraine. The sculptures are crafted from various materials—granite, bronze, and metal—reflecting a range of styles from classical figurativism to bold abstraction. Each artwork is carefully positioned to harmonize with the surrounding nature and the interplay of light beneath the old pine trees.
A Space for Serene Reflection
In contrast to the noisy entertainment spots of the resort, the sculpture garden offers an intellectual and peaceful retreat. It is a free open-air museum accessible at any time of day. In the evenings, the garden is illuminated, lending the metal and stone forms new, mystical shadows. It is a place to pause, sit on a bench, and simply observe the interaction between art and nature, making a visit to Palanga more than just a trip to the beach.
